The Doug dunks on GM.
The Doug just cross overed GM, nailed the jumper, then stepped over them.
The Doug just Malcolm Butler’d GM at the goal line.
The Doug turned to face GM and recited Ezekiel 25:17.
The Doug is right. GM dropped the ball. Again.
IMO, that’s what happens when resources are compromised to bring out the C8 (yeah!) and neuter Cadillac (boo!).

When Ford can sell Bronco's in China...then Ford will have won. Meanwhile, GM claims to be an American company...

The Blazer looks like a really nice vehicle. Key: “vehicle”. It doesn’t look like a very nice “offroader” nor cool in a specifically offroady way
. Not remotely.

Buying a Blazer is Anti-DeMuro Action

In your scena rio, GM is the automotive version of Harley-Davidson.

GM always amazes me. Every one of their cars is either mediocre or revolutionary ...no in between. And they always axe their most revolutionary products right as they’re hitting their peak. AND they’re somehow always oblivious to prevailing automotive trends.

DEM FRAMELESS DOORS
But yeah, *that* looks like an offroad vehicle. Quite explicitly.

If GM had used this for the inspiration for the new Blazer we'd have a fun 3 way fight on our hands..

Your precognitive insight is splendid...have you thought of being an automobile journalist?

And, yet, the Blazer likely outsells the too-much-niche Bronco substantially in 2021 and 2022...
![]() 07/16/2020 at 09:51 |

Kinda the opposite since the Blazer sits right in the centre of a category currently red-hot. They are apparently selling pretty well so far, in a crappy environment

The new Blazer is the same tone deaf attempt as Mitsubishi using the Eclipse name on a crossover.

If the trailblazer was like a lada it’d be amazing. I hope they are like the older cockroach GM cars.

Just wait until they emulate Ford circa 1975 and come out with the Blazer II !!!!

Possibly. But it should have been named something else. Also, "too-much-niche" works quite well for Jeep, Toyota, and Land Rover.

Hell, I'll happily take 80's S10 Blazer emulation.

That’s it! I was trying to think of the S10 but couldn’t. Based on the new model, I think anything would be better.

Of course, GM could just build it off the Colorado platform. But we all know how forward thinking GM is with nothing else to build on top of the Volt and nowhere for a Blackwing V8 to fit in other existing vehicles.*
*can't remember where I saw it, but some unlucky owner of a rare CT6-V had its engine blow up under warranty.

Jimmy? Bring back GMC Jimmy? Make is as crappy as the old one... same as blazer. Complete the circle, GM

K5 Blazer and the little S-10 blazer.
then they have a 3 model blazer sub brand.

I don’t know how many Broncos Ford is forecasting to sell, but the Blazer is only selling around 20k units a quarter, that’s about the same as
the Gladiator
. Now that’s
not a low number, but it’s not like the Bronco has to try and match RAV4 or Forester sales numbers.
![]() 07/16/2020 at 13:01 |

I have no idea how many they’ll sell, but they’re estimating around 100k sales a year, which is still less than half of what the Wrangler is doing. I’m guessing there will be demand enough.

Let’s not forget that GM was bankrupt 10 years ago. That’s barely two vehicle life cycles. GM has put a large amount of resources into EVs. With their trucks, SUVs /CUVs , and C8, there’s only so much they were probably willing to take on when they were planning their development the middle of the last decade.
Plus, Ford has their own CUV naming blunder:

With that teaser image, I really expected singing (or at least whooping).

I’m curious how the Bronco actually does. I figure it’s either 250K a year... or 25K. There is no middle ground.

Let's be honest here: GM doesn't deserve the benefit of doubt thanks to our tax dollars bailing them out. If we have to do it again, I think it's our right to sell off their assets to manufactures competent enough to continue production so jobs are saved not just on the production line, but with the multi-tiered suppliers as well.

I didn't want to Rickroll anyone

Now you've jinxed yourself -- first year sales will most likely be ~100,000 U.S. sales.

Heh. Yeah. This. I’m such a hypocrite. I was howling about how Jeep messed it up with all the Gladiators sitting around on dealer lots— but then was amazed driving 1000 miles the other day.... at how many Gladiators I saw.
